A few days after writing The Passion Prescription you Need Before quitting, many readers wanted to know exactly how passion and purpose blend.Which is a good thing since passion is believing that we can be heroes and the small dots will join.

Novices are not obsessed with getting better!

In the moment passion is one thing, but what about the long term benefits? Does purpose really pay off in a measurable way?

We have fallen as victims by confusing the two and we often use passion and purpose interchangeably.  But are they really connected?

Passion being  a strong desire or a strong emotion that when acted upon does amazing things. Nevertheless without purpose it yields no worthwhile results. I like to interchange passion with love and determination.

So what is purpose, what is the difference between passion and purpose,what happens when passion meets purpose and how do you put passion and purpose into a good use?

What is purpose

Purpose is something set up as an objective to be attained” dictionary

Purpose is the long term goal that we are objectively set to accomplish not necessarily for ourselves. This may be starting a foundation, launching an Organization, research on a vaccine or coaching.

As we grow old our sense of purpose becomes more pronounced as we tend to achieve, settle down and raise a family.

Passion and purpose are inseparable as many psychologists argue. And;

What’s the difference between passion and purpose?

1. Passion is the “what”,purpose is the “why”

Passion is the underlying emotion as to why you keep doing something over and over again. In this case you love it or it excites you. Purpose is the motivation behind the why.  This is the reason why you are doing the what in the first place.

2. Passion is yours, purpose is for others

Passion is more of an ingredient of purpose. I like referring to passion as the inward thing that drives you while purpose as the outward appearance you reflect. Here passion is usually though not every time selfish. But when you use your passion to impact others then that is your purpose.

3. Passion is multiple,purpose is singular.

Passion being what excites us and purpose why the excitement excites us,we may get excited by a couple of things. For example I love writing,coaching and swimming yet my purpose is to change the world’s mindset through writing and coaching.

Have you ever wondered what would happen when your passion met your purpose?

You may be successful and not significant! Which is miserable. This is usually as a result of not blending your passion with purpose.

When your passion blends with your purpose!

Making money is not enough or compensation for investing your time and effort, it’s really essential to learn how to blend passion with your purpose.

You can always achieve this by re-examining yourself every new day by asking yourself;

Who am I?

What do I do?

What can I do to serve and change the world?

When your passion and purpose blend you will experience;

 1. Freedom and joy.

 2. More energy in what you are doing.

 3. You will be content.

 4. You will feel relaxed.

 5. Your skin will glow.

 6. You will be successful.

When you discover what you are passionate about and live purposefully, you will realize a spark living with you.

It’s time to put this new skill into action. You’ve learned what happens when you blend passion and purpose, so what next? Look for new opportunities to test what you have learned. I’m not promising you that the struggle will be any less but the magnitude of the problem will reduce.
